The Social Media Index was developed by leading PR and social media agency, Umpf. It launched in December 2013 with the Sport Social Media Index and was followed by the F1 Social Media Index and English Tourism Social Media Index. Published annually, the indices are calculated not just by Umpf’s own algorithm, but qualitative research from a team of more than ten people who analyse eight social networks, as well as a panel of judges who preside over the final set of results.
The original Index, the Sport Social Media Index, was four months in the making and is a benchmark of social media success among professional British sports teams.
